What are the best vitamins for hair, skin and nails?
Hair, skin and nails FAQs
How much biotin should I take daily? +
Your body needs only around 50 mcg of biotin a day, but it can't store it and passes out what it doesn't use, which is why supplements usually provide much more. Our biotin tablets give you 12,000 mcg in one tablet. Biotin can affect some blood test results, so stop taking it at least three days before a blood test.
Is biotin or B12 better for hair? +
Biotin is the one directly linked to hair, as it helps maintain normal hair. B12 matters more for energy and red blood cells, so it's worth taking if you're vegan or low in it, but for hair specifically, biotin is the better choice.
What is the best nail and hair supplement in the UK? +
The best choice combines biotin and zinc, as between them they help maintain normal hair, skin and nails. Our Skin, Hair & Nail Nutrition Combo does exactly that, pairing high-strength biotin with our award-winning marine collagen, which also contains zinc, copper and vitamin C.
How long do hair, skin and nail vitamins take to work? +
Fingernails grow around 3 mm a month and hair around 1 cm, so allow about three months to see the difference in new growth. Skin renews itself more quickly, and many people notice a change within a few weeks of taking collagen daily.
Is marine or bovine collagen better? +
Both give you the same type of collagen found in your skin. Marine collagen comes from fish and suits people who don't eat red meat, while bovine collagen comes from cattle and works well as a powder. Our guide to the difference between bovine and marine collagen explains more.
